Legal Considerations


     Certain services require a professional license and are regulated by the
     Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. If you have
     questions about whether a specific service, establishment or individual may

     The Department of Business and Professional Regulation controls licensing
     and regulates businesses and professionals in Florida, such as cosmetologists,
     veterinarians, real estate agents and pari-mutuel wagering facilities. The
     department is under the executive branch of the governor and is governed
     by Chapter 120, F.S. The department is structured according to the
     requirements of Section 20.165, F.S.

     Registering Your Business

     Business owners in Florida are required to file the name of their business
     with the Florida Division of Corporations at if they are using a
                            DBA (Doing Business As designation) also known as a
                            fictitious name. The only exception is a sole proprietor
                            that uses his or her name as the name of the business,
                            e.g. Dan Brown.
