Welcome

Greetings Polk County Residents and Visitors!

The Board of County Commissioners invites you to visit and learn about Polk County's environmental lands. The properties highlighted here provide an opportunity for citizen's and visitors to experience the beauty and diversity of the County's natural resources.

From the Green Swamp Area of Critical State Concern in the north, to beautiful riverine systems in the south, to the globally imperiled scrub of the Lake Wales Ridge, Polk County's natural features are extremely diverse.

Since 1994, the Environmental Lands Program has acquired over 19,000 acres of Polk County’s unique natural systems. Nine properties are currently open to the public for compatible, nature-based recreation such as, but not limited to, hiking, wildlife observation, and picnicking. We invite you to become better acquainted with these wilderness areas and experience the natural side of Polk County.
