Bartow, Fla. (February 3, 2012) – The Polk County Board of County Commissioners’ Parks and Recreation will host the Scales and Tails Pet Festival on Sat., Feb. 11 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Loyce E. Harpe Park in Mulberry (500 West Carter Road, next to the DiOGi Dog Park).
This family event is free and open to the public. Free activities include live entertainment by Sunshine Serpents, pet contests, wiener dog races, a Kid’s Zone with a bounce house, carnival games and a “kiddie” train. Some vendors may charge small fees for pet-related accessories or food.
The SPCA and other groups will be on site with information about pet adoptions. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s Animal Control Section will provide low-cost vaccines ($5 with a $15-$25 registration fee) and microchipping ($10). Sunshine Serpents live shows take place at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Pet contests begin at 1:30 p.m. and will recognize the best dressed, largest, and smallest animals. Enter long body, short-legged athletes in the wiener dog races at 2:15 p.m.
Event attendees will be eligible for prize drawings throughout the event.
