Joseph P. Sloan, my father, was inducted into the U.S. Army Jan. 1, 1944 and assigned to E Company, 119 th. Infantry regiment of the 30 th division. Crossed the English channel to Omaha Beach and participated in the battles of Northern France, first allied troups to Belgium Sept. 3, Holland sept. 14, the rhineland. In Germany on Oct. 6, 1944 was wounded at the Seigfred line near Aachen. Sent to Kings Hunting Estate Hospital in Bermingham England. Returned to his outfit until the war ended. During his service he was awarded the Purple Heart, good conduct medals,E.T.O. service medal with four bronze stars, combat infantry badge,cross of Lorraign, Belgium Fouregerre, American Victory madal, unit citation and the Presidents Citation. was honorable discharged Nov. 4, 1945
