The Office of Planning and Development is responsible for ensuring safe and orderly growth and development of the County through implementation of the County's Comprehensive Plan and through the enforcement of relevant land development regulations and construction codes. The Comprehensive Plan, which is mandated by State Law, is a 20 year plan which establishes future land uses for the unincorporated portion of the County and includes policies for various development issues, such as housing, recreation & open space, transportation, water & sewer, drainage, natural resources, etc.

The Office of Planning and Development is responsible for the following Divisions: Building and Codes, Concurrency and Entitlements Division, Land Development Division, and Long Range Planning Division (Transportation Planning Organization).
