Waste Resource Management is part of the Infrastructure Management Department, Directed by William D. Beasley, P.E..
Polk County adopted an ordinance which provides universal garbage collection. One company, Florida Refuse, is currently contracted to provide collection services of household waste twice a week and yard waste once a week. Property owners are assessed an annual collection and disposal fee through their property tax bills for this service.
Residents are assisted in proper disposal of household hazardous waste through the Mobile Used Oil and Paint Collection Program. Household hazardous waste is accepted at the North Central Landfill. Hazardous Waste Specialists are available to assist businesses and residents with questions.
Beginning in July 1999, curbside recycling services became available to unincorporated areas of Polk County. Recycling Drop-Off Centers still remain in parts of the county. Additionally, the North Central Landfill provides recycling centers for aluminum, glass, newspaper, plastic bottles, steel cans, and household hazardous waste.
