The Organizational and Employee Development Division (OED) provides all Polk County employees with various on-site educational and training opportunities. Employee training opportunities are listed below.
Computer Lab Training
The lab offers a variety of Multi-Media CD-ROM computer-based training packages that employees can use at their own pace. The lab is open to all County employees interested in learning or reinforcing new skills, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lab time appointments are scheduled in 2-hour blocks. The lab may be used during work hours with supervisors' approval, or on employee's own time. Walk-ins will be accepted if space/staff are available. Please call OED at 863-534-6034 to schedule an appointment.
Courses Offered
Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels are available for the Microsoft Office Suite 2003 programs listed below:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Access (database)
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint

Web-Based Training
Web-based training is also referred to as online learning. Web-based courses use text and graphics to create a learning environment right on the user's computer. Web-based courses are self-study, which means a user can log in and work on a course anytime (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). All that is needed is a computer to access the internet and you can learn new skills at your own pace, at home or at work.

Lunch Time Learning

Employee Resource Libraries
The Resource Center contains a growing collection of books, magazines, audiotapes, videos and CD-ROMS on a wide range of personal and professional development topics. These materials are available to all BoCC employees for check out. Please visit OED located on the 5th floor of the Neil Combee Adminstration Building.
Training Center
The training center is located in room 257 on the second floor of the Neil Combee Administration Building in Bartow. The training center is maintained and scheduled by OED. Please call OED at 863-534-6034 for more information about the training center.
