Keep Your Browser Up-to-Date
There are many reasons for users to keep their browser updated.
- Protection from known 'bugs', errors and security leaks that exist with older versions.
- 128-bit encryption protection for internet communications, including credit card use and financial transactions.
- Older versions may not meet W3C Accessibility Standards, which many web sites, including www.polk-county.net, support.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technology that the newest version offers.
- Experience the full potential of www.polk-county.net and millions of other web sites!

Browser Plug-Ins Most of the documents and forms on this website are made available in Adobe™ Acrobat PDF format. We recommend
you download the latest Acrobat Reader if you have not already done so. This site also uses Macromedia™ Flash and we recommend to download the latest player as well. Please
keep in mind that both of these plug-ins are free for your use and are fully supported by their originators.
Website Accessibility Standards
Accessibility refers to websites and software that is accessible those with disabilities or other impairments. Our website adheres to two standards of
accessibility. The first standard is the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) as developed by the World
Wide Web Consortium or W3C. The WAI maintains 14 recommended guidelines for developing accessible websites. These guidelines have 3 levels or priorities.
Our website is fully compliant with all guidelines at the priority 1 level (the linitial level).
The second accessibility standard is Section 508. This is a law, resulting from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which
governs how the Federal Government develops, uses and deploys technology. Although Section 508 does not pertain to local government directly, we've decided to
incorporate it within our design. Our website meets the 16 Section 508 guidelines.
