Polk County Emergency Food and Shelter Program

BARTOW, Fla. (March 6, 2020) – Under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) the Federal Emergency Management Agency supplements and expands the ongoing work of local social service organizations, both nonprofit and governmental, to provide shelter, food, and supportive services to individuals and families who have economic emergencies.
EFSP funding is designed to help hungry and homeless people, as well as organizations that support those at risk of becoming hungry and homeless due to economic hardships. The goal is to help people meet basic survival needs and to help them resolve crisis and secure permanent housing opportunities.
Eligible Program Services include:
- Food, in the form of groceries
- One month’s rent, mortgage, and/or utility bill payment
There are eligibility requirements and conditions for this program. They include reviewing the applicant’s income, ensuring that no other program assistance exists, and proof that this program is a means of getting back on track with timely payments and services.
