Published on Oct 2, 2020

Bartow, Fla. (October 2, 2020) — Projects planned by Polk County, CSX Transportation, Florida Gas Transmission, and Mosaic Company will slow or detour traffic along several roads during the month of October.

On Monday, Oct. 5, a rail crossing reconstruction project by CSX will close N. Eastside Drive between E. Memorial Boulevard and E. Main Street in the Combee area of Lakeland. Work should be completed and road reopened by about 7 p.m. Oct. 6. A short detour along Combee Road will redirect traffic around the crossing and work zone.

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 7, a Polk County drainage project will close Oak Street and Pine Street between Bomber Road and Richburg Road in the Wahneta area for 20 days. Traffic will detour at Maple Street to bypass installations

The relocation of a gas pipeline by Florida Gas Transmission will close Charlotte Road just north of East Derby Avenue in Auburndale for 14 days starting Oct. 12. Traffic will detour along Old Winter Haven Road, Poinsettia Road and East Derby Avenue. Law enforcement will be stationed on both sides of the work zone to help ensure public safety.

A dragline relocation by Mosaic Company will close County Line Road just east of Manley Road in Fort Meade between Oct. 15 and Oct. 30. A temporary bypass road will divert traffic around the dragline crossing area. It should take no longer than 12 to 16 hours for the dragline to cross the roadway.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully, follow detour signs, and add extra time to trips through these areas. For further details, call Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200.
