Added Repairs at CSX’s Ewell Road Rail Crossing to Close Eastbound Travel Lanes

Published on May 24, 2021

Bartow, Fla. (May 24, 2021) — Today’s scheduled repairs to CSX’s Ewell Road rail crossing between Old Hwy. 37 and South Florida Avenue scheduled have been expanded to include the tracks crossing the eastbound travel lanes. Early completion of work to correct loose concrete panels and exposed fasteners at the crossing in the westbound travel lanes has prompted CSX to make similar repairs to the tracks crossing the eastbound travel lanes. Westbound travel lanes will reopen around noon and the eastbound lanes will close shortly afterward. Eastbound traffic along Ewell Road traffic should detour at Old Hwy. 37 to bypass closure. Travel lanes are expected to reopen around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. Commuters are still advised to expect delays and to add extra time to trips through this area. Polk County regrets any traffic disruption resulting from the closure, but recognizes rail repairs are necessary and will make for better and safer driving conditions when completed. To report a rail crossing issue or complaint, contact CSX at (877) 835-5279 or
