7th Street SW in Winter Haven Closing for Two Weeks of Drainage Repairs

Published: August 30, 2024

Bartow, Fla. (Aug. 30, 2024) — Drainage repairs will close 7th Street SW at the intersection with Avenue R SW in Winter Haven for two-weeks starting Tuesday, September 3. Excavation of travel lanes is needed to repair several structures and provide access for “cured in-place” pipelining (CIPP) of connecting drainage pipes. CIPP is a cost-effective method to seal leaks and restore pipes to a near-new condition that extends lifespan.

Work requires closing 7th Street SW north of the railroad tracks and detouring traffic around the Avenue R SW intersection. 7th Street SW traffic will detour at Lake Shipp Drive or Snively Avenue south of the Winter Haven Amtrack station, and detour at Avenue O SW north of Avenue R SW. Both detour routes can bypass work zone along U.S. Highway 17. While access to 7th Street SW will be closed to through traffic, access to businesses and the Shipp Side Mobile Home Park will be maintained during construction. Minor travel delays are expected, especially during peak-hour traffic. Commuters are advised to drive carefully and add time to trips through this area. For more details, call Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200.
