Mount Pisgah Road Bridge Undergoing Two Months of Emergency Repairs

Published: October 31, 2023

Bartow, Fla. (Oct 31, 2023) — Two months of emergency repairs will start tomorrow morning Wednesday, November 1 on the Mount Pisgah Road Bridge over Gishley Creek. The bridge is located east of Bowling Green about .7 miles north of West County Line Road just south of the Mosaic South Fort Meade Phosphate Mine Gate #4 entrance. Mount Pisgah Road Bridge has been closed for two months of inspection, evaluation, and engineering after a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) inspection revealed problems requiring closure. Polk County maintains the bridge and repairs will include embankment armoring to strengthen structure and creek bed from erosion, as well as abutment improvements and other needed work to restore a sound condition. Mt. Pisgah Road will remain closed until repairs are complete and traffic can safely resume. In the meantime, traffic continues to be rerouted to bypass closure along US Highway 17, US Highway 98, West County Line Road, Bereah Road, and Avon Park Cutoff Road. Depending on direction or destination of travel, detour may be lengthy. Daily commuters are encouraged add extra time to trips through this area during closure.

Call Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at 863-535-2200 for further details.
