Bartow, Fla. (May 6, 2020) — Polk County’s Board of County Commissioners’ facilities closed during the State’s COVID-19 Safer at Home order will reopen to the public on Monday, May 11, 2020. County business hours will return to Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Facilities that will reopen to the public include the County Administration Building, Frank B. Smith Building and entire east Bartow office complex, Stuart/Ag Center, History Center, Roads and Drainage Administration, Parks and Natural Resources administrative offices, Utilities Administration, Waste and Recycling administration, the Lakeland Government Center and the Gil Jones Center in Winter Haven.

The Adult Day Healthcare Centers in Haines City and Lakeland will remain closed until further notice. The Community Centers, Polk IFAS Extension meeting rooms and Stuart Center also remain closed to regular community activities with the exception of their computer labs. The computer labs are open for limited use within social distancing guidelines.

Circle B Bar Reserve and the Saddle Creek Gun Range will reopen on Friday, May 8 at 8 a.m.

“Customers coming to county facilities to do business should expect some changes in how we provide our services,” said County Manager Bill Beasley. “Our facilities have been thoroughly cleaned, furnishings arranged and floors marked to indicate the CDC’s six-foot social distancing standards. Plexiglas barriers have been installed in many of the county’s busiest customer service counters.”

While face masks are not required to be worn by customers or county employees, we encourage this practice for those who desire to wear them. Disposable face masks will be provided to customers who request them, as they are available. Hand sanitizing equipment has been installed throughout the buildings and will be available on customer counters.

Please be aware that, in the near term, some service centers and walk in offices may have limited services. You may see an increase in service time. You are encouraged to conduct county business online through our website at www.polk-county.net.

The Building Division will continue to offer drop off and pick up services in the Administration Building lobby. The division’s office will reopen by appointment only to practice social distancing for the protection of our customers and employees. Limited appointment times are for completing the permit application but not processing the permit. There is no same day permitting available at this time. You may call the Building Division to schedule an appointment at (863) 534-6080. Customers are encouraged to continue to apply for building permits online.
