Deadline to submit Polk CARES applications approaching

Published on Jul 6, 2020

Bartow, Fla. (July 6, 2020) — After nearly seven weeks of processing applications for Polk CARES 2020 grants, accepting new applications for financial assistance from residents and small business owners is coming to an end.

The final day to submit an application for individual/household assistance is 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020. Small business applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Since May, the Board of County Commissioners has allocated more than half of Polk County’s $126 million federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grant to help provide funding to residents and small business owners who were left struggling from Covid-19 related layoffs and business closures. Both funds have been offered on a first-come, first-served basis. With the number of submitted applications, and the number of applications currently in process to be completed, the allocation for the county’s programs is nearly gone.

Residents and small business owners may go to the county’s website at to see if they qualify for help. They are encouraged to complete and submit their applications by the deadline. Incomplete applications cannot be considered. A Call Center is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for questions at (863) 298-7500.

After Friday, residents may contact United Way of Central Florida at 2-1-1 for assistance. United Way has until October 1, 2020 to process their allocation of Polk CARES funds.
