Bartow, Fla. (June 8, 2021) — Work related to the City of Lakeland’s North Wabash Avenue extension project will close the intersection of North Wabash Avenue and 10th Street for five months beginning Monday. The entire intersection will be closed for the duration of work. Depending on the direction of travel on 10th Street, traffic will detour at North Chestnut Road or North Brunell Parkway. If traveling northbound along North Wabash Avenue, traffic should detour at Crutchfield Road
During closure, the City’s contractor will reconstruct the North Wabash Avenue and 10th Street intersection, as well as widen North Wabash Avenue between Crutchfield Road and 10th Street. Work includes utility, drainage, and signal improvements as part of the extension of North Wabash Avenue from north of 10th Street to Fairbanks Street at West Bella Vista Street.
Commuters can expect congestion and delays, particularly during peak-hour traffic. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully and consider alternate routes. For further details, call Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200.
