Repairs at Ewell Road CSX Rail Crossing Postponed Until Wednesday
Published on Jun 14, 2021
Bartow, Fla. (June 14, 2021) — Repairs scheduled to start today at the CSX Ewell Road rail crossing between Old Hwy. 37 and South Florida Avenue have been postponed until Wednesday morning, so crews can respond to an emergency incident at the Winston rail yard in Lakeland. The associated road closure and detour have been suspended until work resumes on Wednesday. Rescheduled work at the Ewell Road crossing should be completed by Friday evening and the roadway reopened to traffic. Commuters are reminded that major travel delays are expected when work restarts. Drivers are further encouraged to find alternate routes and to add extra time to trips through this area. When closed, eastbound traffic along Ewell Road should detour at Old Hwy. 37 to bypass closure. Right-hand turns from State Road 37 (South Florida Avenue) onto westbound Ewell Road will not be permitted and traffic will be diverted to Shepherd Road. West Pipkin Road can also be used as an optional bypass or alternate east-west route. Polk County regrets any traffic disruption resulting from the closure, but recognizes rail repairs are necessary and will make for better and safer driving conditions when completed. To report a rail crossing issue or complaint, contact CSX at (877) 835-5279 or TellCSX@csx.com.
