North Chestnut Road in Lakeland Closing for Three Months

Published: December 15, 2023

Bartow, Fla. (Dec. 15, 2023) — A new Polk County sidewalk project requiring extensive drainage installations will close North Chestnut Road in Lakeland from Butler Drive south to Yeats Street for three months beginning Monday, December 18. Through traffic will detour along West Memorial Boulevard or New Tampa Highway to Wabash Avenue to avoid work zone. Project will extend the existing sidewalk along the east-side of North Chestnut Road from Butler Drive to Yeats Street. Future phases will continue building new sidewalk to New Tampa Highway. North Chestnut Road is scheduled to reopen in mid-March 2024, and all work should be finished by mid-May 2024. Motorists can expect travel delays, particularly during morning and afternoon peak-hour drivetimes. Commuters should drive carefully and add a few extra minutes to trips through this area.

Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200 for more details.
