Bartow, Fla. (August 10, 2018) —
Starting Wednesday, a weeklong Polk County project to reconstruct Waring Road from Dranefield Road to Old Medulla Road will reduce traffic to one-lane for two days in each direction. The northbound travel lane will close first on Wednesday morning with traffic detoured along Old Medulla Road to South Pipkin Road until Thursday evening. The southbound travel lane will close Friday morning, while traffic is detoured at Dranefield Road to South Pipkin Road until Saturday evening. Crews will be rehabilitating and strengthening the road base before resurfacing with new asphalt pavement. Roadway reconstruction of this segment of Waring Road is needed to correct persistent rutting and settlement. Given recent heavy rains, the project schedule is dependent on the weather and subject to change. A coordinating drainage project is also planned for later this year to further improve conditions along Waring Road and enhance the safe operation of the heavily traveled corridor.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution and add extra time to trips through this area. For more information, contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2230.
