Johnson Avenue Closure and Sinkhole Repair Extended to the End of February

Bartow, Fla. (January 10, 2018) — As Polk County continues to pump grout into a large sinkhole below Johnson Avenue (County Road 580) just west of Powerline Road in Haines City, the reopening of the roadway has been extended through the end of February. According to the county’s Roads and Drainage Division, it will take until the end of January to complete the grouting process and three to four weeks to rebuild the damaged section of Johnson Avenue after the cement-like material hardens. Detours around the work zone will remain in effect until the pavement restoration is finished. Eastbound traffic along Johnson Avenue is detoured at 30th Street, while westbound traffic is diverted at Powerline Road. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to add extra time to trips through this area. Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at 863-535-2200 for further details.
