Johnson Avenue Reopens Today After Three-Month Sinkhole Repair

Bartow, Fla. (February 28, 2019) — Johnson Avenue (County Road 580) just west of Power Line Road in Haines City is reopening today after being closed for three-months to repair a sinkhole that formed beneath the roadway in late November. After pumping nearly 3,000 cubic yards of grout to fill voids in the bearing soils and reconstructing almost 250 feet of roadway, Polk County will remove barricades and detour signs this afternoon so traffic can safely traverse the roadway again. However, motorists can still expect minor commuting delays Monday from a scheduled lane closure as crews replace sodding along the road shoulders. Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at 863-535-2200 for further details.
