Weech named Interim Polk County Fire Rescue Chief

Bartow, Fla. (May 8, 2019) — County Manager Jim Freeman today announced the appointment of Robert Weech as Interim Fire Chief for Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR).

Weech joined PCFR in February 2017 as Deputy Fire Chief of Logistics and Special Services. He began his firefighting career with the City of Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue in 1999 and worked through the ranks to become the assistant chief of administration in 2008. As that agency merged with other operations, Rob served as division chief of finance and was later promoted to assistant chief of operations.

Prior to his fire services career, Weech was a certified public accountant for a large international accounting firm. He has an accounting degree from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Organizational Development from Upper Iowa University. Weech has attended several executive development trainings, including the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer. He is also a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to appoint Rob Weech to this leadership position in Fire Rescue,” said County Manager Jim Freeman. “Rob not only has had a distinguished career as a firefighter/paramedic, but has been extremely valuable to Polk County in helping analyze incident data, developing our personnel resources and strategically planning for future growth in the division as the county’s population continues to grow. I have great confidence that Rob will move the agency forward.”

Weech’s annual salary as interim fire chief will be $124,241.70.
