Trash Services

Polk County currently contracts with Republic Services Inc. for residential garbage collection. Customers are provided rolling carts, which come in multiple sizes, for this automated service.

Automated Garbage Collection

  • Residents receive a 95-gallon garbage cart for all household trash but that can be exchanged for a smaller 35- or 65-gallon cart
  • A special vehicle, equipped with a lifting mechanism, reaches out to the waste cart, lifts and empties the container returning the cart to its original position
  • No other container may be used for trash

If you didn't receive a cart or wish to trade it in for a smaller cart, call (863) 284-4319.

Waste Pickup Schedule

  • All waste collection takes place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • All garbage, recycle and yard waste should be placed curb-side either the night before or by 6 a.m. on your collection day.
  • View the following map to see your assigned collection day based on area:  Collection Day Map

When Polk's landfill is closed on major holidays, collection services will be delayed by one day.

Garbage - show / hide
  • Place all garbage inside your 95-gallon cart.
  • Place the cart within five feet of the curb or street.
  • Make sure the handles face away from the street.
  • Garbage not inside the cart will not be picked up.

If you have a long driveway and need something to help transport you new cart to the road, we have a couple of solutions. We currently have in stock the Chore Saver, http://www.choresaver.com or the Can Sporter, http://www.cansporter.com. For a small deposit, you can rent one of these items from our office to make your trash day easier. After visiting the website, please contact our office for more information.

Bulk Trash - show / hide

There are times when customers will have items too large to fit into their rolling trash carts. Waste and Recycling has this covered.

If you have items, like couches, mattresses, chairs, tables and appliances, set them out by the curb. Trash collection drivers will make a note of your items and tag them to inform you they have been scheduled for pick up within 72 business hours.

Routine Yard Waste - show / hide

Routine yard waste is collected once a week on the same day as your garbage and recycling. Any yard waste should be placed at the curb in plastic lawn bags, in old garbage containers, or in neatly stacked piles.

Routine yard waste includes:

  • Shrub and tree trimmings
  • Grass clippings
  • Palm fronds
  • Branches

For a list of contract haulers to remove non-conforming yard waste, call the Waste and Recycling Division at (863) 284-4319.

Unacceptable Trash Items - show / hide

Do not place the following materials in your garbage cart or at the curb. If any of these items are found in your cart, the cart will be tagged with an instructional notice and not serviced. Call (863) 284-4319 for proper disposal information.
