Power Line Road North of Johnson Avenue to Stay Closed Through August

Published: August 1, 2024

Bartow, Fla. (Aug. 1, 2024) — Power Line Road just north of Johnson Avenue in Haines City will remain closed through August for road restoration required to finish a Polk County project that used grout injections to stabilize subsidence from voids in the underlying soils. More pressurized grouting was needed to fill unanticipated voids, causing greater heaving of the pavement section and shoulder embankment than originally expected. Increased heaving necessitates extra repairs and extends closure one month. Traffic continues to be detoured along Johnson Avenue or Baker Dairy Road to North 30th Street to bypass work zone. While the detour route is short, delays and backups are likely, especially during peak-hour traffic. Commuters are advised to drive carefully and add extra drivetime to trips in this area.

Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at 863-535-2200 for further details.
