Lou, a Lake County, Ohio Genealogical Society member, thought he had a brick wall. He shared his frustration in researching his father-in-law with the Society’s special interest group (SIG). Armed with just oral history, it would take more than Lou’s eyes to see that his brick wall had a crack. His father-in-law often talked about his days playing for the New York Celtics but left many gaps. With the help of the eyes of an experienced genealogist, together they bulldozed the brick wall and learned much more than they could have imagined.
Join the History Center as Deborah Abbott, Ph.D., outlines the methodology used in collecting oral histories. Abbott is a professional genealogist specializing in genealogical methodology, manuscript collections and African American family research.
This is a hybrid virtual program. The presenter will appear virtually, but guests are invited to join us at the History Center to participate via Zoom. For Zoom details, contact the Polk County History Center at (863) 534-4386 or email ShannonGraham@polk-county.net.
