Bartow, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2023) — Fort Green Road north of the Streamsong Resort near Bowling Green has reopened after emergency rail repairs to tracks damaged by a semi-truck last week.
A sewer extension project in Lake Hamilton previously scheduled to close Lake Hatchineha Road just east of Scenic Highway (SR 17) on Monday, October 10, has been rescheduled to start a week later on Monday, October 16, with an accelerated two-day closure. The detour route remains unchanged as traffic will briefly detour to Water Tank Road and Detour Road to bypass work zone. Lake Hatchineha Road is expected to reopen Wednesday afternoon, October 18.
Similarly, a 40-day closure of Wilder Road just east of US Highway 98 in north Lakeland to reconstruct the roadway along a new subdivision frontage will be postponed one week until Monday, October 16. Through-traffic will still detour along US Highway 98 or North Socrum Loop Road to Marcum Road or West Socrum Loop Road to avoid construction area. Detour route may be lengthy for some commuters.
Motorists are advised to expect longer drivetimes along detours and to add extra time to their trips through these areas. Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200 for further details.
